Survival Hunter

Ranged DPS medium demand

A trap and utility specialist that becomes one of the strongest Hunter specs in late TBC thanks to Expose Weakness.

How It Feels to Play

Survival is a sleeper spec. In early TBC, nobody wants you. BM does more damage, and your unique benefits don't shine until you have enough agility on your gear. But as your gear improves through later tiers, Survival becomes a monster. The key is Expose Weakness, a talent that gives your entire raid bonus attack power every time you crit. With high agility and crit rate, you're providing a massive raid-wide DPS buff.

The playstyle is similar to other Hunter specs (steady shot weaving, auto-shot management), but you care more about agility and crit than raw attack power. You're also the trap master; your improved traps and Lock and Load (in later iterations) make you the best Hunter for crowd control situations.

Survival is the thinking Hunter's spec. You won't top damage meters personally, but you'll make everyone around you hit harder. It's the kind of spec that looks average on a damage meter but is actually contributing far more than the numbers suggest. Raid leaders who understand this will value you highly, especially in late T5 and T6 content.

Complexity

Strengths

  • Expose Weakness provides a massive raid-wide DPS boost
  • Scales incredibly well with late-game gear
  • Best crowd control among Hunter specs

Pain Points

  • Weak in early tiers before you have enough agility
  • Personal DPS looks underwhelming on meters
  • Requires specific gear stats to be effective

Demand & Supply

medium demand

Becomes highly valued in later tiers when Expose Weakness scales with gear. Most raids want one Survival Hunter in late T5 and T6. Low demand early, high demand late.
